Our Story

A craftsman hand-cutting a wood joint with a traditional Japanese pull saw

Parallel Manufacturing was built around a simple idea: combine modern manufacturing technology with real craftsmanship to turn ideas into products that are made to last.

What started with a passion for making and problem-solving has grown into a manufacturing company focused on creating products with purpose. We believe modern manufacturing does not have to mean mass-produced, disposable, or impersonal. Technology should make craftsmanship better, not replace it.

That philosophy traces back to our origin. Parallel Manufacturing was founded by a small group of designers and fabricators who shared an interest in traditional woodworking and modern production. While studying architectural screening systems, they became especially interested in Kumiko, the Japanese craft of assembling small wooden pieces into intricate geometric patterns without relying on nails.

Rather than reproducing traditional work exactly, the team began experimenting with ways to translate its visual principles into modern architectural panels. Early prototypes combined digital design, precision cutting, hand finishing, and modular construction. The name Parallel reflects that approach: traditional craft and modern fabrication working alongside one another.

CNC machining gives us repeatability and precision, while careful material selection, finishing, assembly, and attention to detail give each product its character. Whether we are producing a single custom piece, developing a prototype, or preparing a product for repeat production, our goal remains the same: make it accurately, make it thoughtfully, and make it well.

What We Do

Parallel Manufacturing provides CNC manufacturing, product development, woodworking, and custom fabrication services for individuals, designers, businesses, and organizations. We can work from an existing design or help develop an idea into something that can actually be manufactured.

Made in the USA

All Parallel Manufacturing products are produced in the United States.

Local production allows us to maintain close control over material selection, fabrication, finishing, and final inspection. It also gives designers, builders, and homeowners greater flexibility when developing custom sizes, patterns, finishes, and installation details.

Our process combines precision machinery with hands-on assembly and finishing. The result is a consistent product that still retains the warmth and character of wood.

Kumiko-Inspired Wall Art

Traditional geometric patterns meet modern manufacturing.

Our Kumiko-inspired wall pieces use carefully designed repeating patterns to create depth, symmetry, texture, and visual interest. CNC precision allows intricate designs to be reproduced consistently while maintaining the warmth and character of woodworking. Selected designs are also available with integrated or concealed backlighting, allowing the latticework to shift from a physical surface during the day to an illuminated focal point at night.

Kumiko-Inspired Design

Kumiko is known for its precise geometric arrangements and the way those patterns interact with light.

Our panels draw from that visual language through repeated lines, radial forms, interlocking shapes, and symmetrical compositions. Some designs are quiet and minimal. Others are dense, expressive, and highly decorative.

Because every pattern changes depending on scale, material, finish, and lighting, each installation can create a distinct atmosphere.

Suggested Uses

Backlit Panels

Selected Parallel Manufacturing panels can be paired with integrated or concealed lighting. Backlighting emphasizes the geometry of the pattern and creates a softer, more atmospheric effect. During the day, the panel reads as a crafted wood surface; when illuminated, the open areas become brighter and the pattern becomes more defined.

Backlit panels may be used for feature walls, reception desks, headboards, restaurant interiors, bar fronts, retail displays, hallways, ceiling installations, decorative signage backgrounds, and custom art installations.

Lighting temperature and intensity can be adjusted to suit the space. Warm lighting creates a softer, more residential appearance, while neutral lighting produces a cleaner, more architectural effect.

Aesthetic Direction

Warm Minimalism

Natural wood, simple geometry, and restrained repetition pair with neutral palettes and uncluttered spaces.

Japandi Interiors

Kumiko-inspired patterns complement Japanese simplicity and Scandinavian warmth.

Modern Residential

Add handcrafted detail to contemporary homes without making a space feel overly traditional.

Hospitality and Wellness

Repeated geometry and filtered light create a calm, ordered, immersive atmosphere.

Organic Modern

Wood panels are a natural counterpoint to stone, plaster, glass, metal, and concrete.

Contemporary Luxury

Large-scale panels, custom finishes, and integrated lighting create a refined focal point.

Materials and Finishes

Panels may be produced in a range of wood species, tones, and finishes depending on project requirements.

Finish options may include natural clear coats, warm stains, dark stains, painted finishes, or custom color matching. Because wood is a natural material, variation in grain and tone should be expected; these differences are part of the finished character of each panel.

Custom Panel Design

Parallel Manufacturing offers custom panel development for architects, interior designers, builders, and homeowners. Our team can work from architectural drawings, design concepts, reference images, or general project requirements.

Shoji-Style Screens & Decorative Panels

Inspired by traditional Japanese design, our Shoji-style screens combine clean lines, geometric patterns, and modern manufacturing.

They can be used as room dividers, decorative wall panels, privacy screens, architectural accents, or illuminated features.

Architectural & Decorative Components

Parallel Manufacturing produces custom CNC components for designers, builders, homeowners, and businesses.

Applications can include wall panels, decorative screens, furniture components, cabinet components, trim elements, fixtures, displays, and other specialty pieces.

Instead of forcing a project to fit an off-the-shelf product, we can manufacture components around the requirements of the project.

Children's Building & Educational Products

We believe some of the best products for children encourage them to build, create, discover, and use their imagination.

Our children's products are designed around hands-on interaction rather than passive entertainment. Components can be manufactured with CNC precision to create repeatable shapes, patterns, and building systems that introduce children to creativity, problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and making.

Our focus is on creating products that parents can feel good about bringing into their homes while giving children something they can actually engage with.

Our Process

Not every project begins with a finished CAD file. Sometimes it starts with a sketch, photograph, measurement, concept, or simply an idea. Parallel Manufacturing helps bridge the gap between having an idea and having a finished product.

  1. Concept

Tell us what you want to create, the problem you are trying to solve, or the product you have in mind.

  2. Design & Development

We evaluate dimensions, materials, manufacturing methods, tolerances, assembly, and other details needed to make the concept manufacturable.

  3. Prototype

When appropriate, we create a prototype so the design can be tested and refined before moving into production.

  4. Manufacturing

Once the design is ready, our CNC equipment allows us to manufacture components accurately and consistently.

  5. Finishing & Assembly

Depending on the project, pieces can be sanded, finished, assembled, packaged, or prepared for the customer's next production step.

  6. Repeat Production

Once a product is developed, digital manufacturing allows us to reproduce it consistently for future orders and production runs.

Why Parallel Manufacturing?

Precision

CNC manufacturing allows us to create complex components with repeatable accuracy.

Craftsmanship

Machines provide precision. People provide judgment. Our process combines both.

Problem Solving

Manufacturing isn't always about following a drawing. Sometimes the challenge is figuring out how something should be made in the first place.
